F.A.Q.
- Is the program free, or do I have to pay to use it?
The program is freeware and can be used or distributed without restriction. However, if you would like to support my work or simply show appreciation, I will gladly accept NX gifts in game. - Does the program work on Windows 7?
Yes. The program is actually developed on Windows 7 and then later tested on Windows XP before being released. - Does the program work on 64-bit (x64) operating systems?
Yes. The program is compiled as Win32 PE + MSIL application all will work on both 32 and 64-bit OS. You only need to have .NET Framework 2.0 or above installed. - When I enter my YouTube credentials and try to fetch the videos. I get an invalid token error.
Use your Google username and password instead of YouTube. - If I'm using the shared CAE Reporter YouTube account, won't other users be able to see or even delete my uploaded videos?
No. Each user is given a unique identity on the shared account. You can only work with videos you uploaded using the program. You can still go to the CAE Reporter YouTube channel and see all of the uploaded videos. But you can't see who actually uploaded them. Your identity is stored only localy in 'user.dat' file in the program's folder. - When I try to upload images, I get a little red icon and the images don't upload
Check your Internet connection, or try with a different provider (Configuration - Options) - When trying to upload a video I get the following error: 'The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote server'
You are probably trying to upload a too large file. Please encode the video before uploading. The maximum size for the upload is 1 GB. - When I start to encode a video for the first time, I get a license popup.
CAE Report Generator uses VirtualDub to encode videos. So you must accept the VirtualDub license before continuing. It's a standard GNU Public License. Don't worry, it is displayed only once. - What video file formats does the encoder support?
The player itself can playback anything Windows Media Player can, however, the encoder can work only with AVI files and has been extensively tested and optimized to encode FRAPS videos. (v1.02+) - I would like to use a different offence/map than those available in the drop down lists
Simply select 'Other' and you can manually type in an offence or a map name. - What is the difference between the normal and lite version?
They are exactly the same, but the lite version doesn't come with VirtualDub, and so it can't encode video files. However, it still has the player component, so you can extract snapshots from videos and include them in your report. - I updated to a new version and now my library is empty
Library is stored in 'library.dat' in the program folder. Make sure you copy that file to the location where you installed the new version. - My library doesn't get saved after I exit the program.
This can happen if you use Vista/Win7 and have UAC enabled while program is installed in Program Files folder. Disable UAC or run the application with administrator privilages (Run as administrator) - I loose all my settings when upgrading to a new version.
From version v1.04 your old settings can be reused. Older versions ignore them. - I don't want to use the installer, but still wan't to have encoder functionality. Can I do a manual install?
Yes. Simply download the ZIP archive of CAE Report Generator. Inside is a folder called 'codecs', simply run and install all the codecs there. You only need to install them once, so if you are upgrading to a new version and already have the codecs installed, there is no need to do it again. VirtualDub uses these VFW codecs for encoding. They are all open source and spyware free. The codecs can be manually uninstalled from the Windows Control Panel (Add/Remove Programs on WinXP or Programs and Features on Vista/Win7). - Can I have multiple video encoder or uploader windows active at the same time?
Yes, you can open as many video encoder and YouTube uploader windows as your computer or internet connection can handle. - I'm not sure what video encoder settings to use? What is bitrate?
When you load a video in the encoder you can click on a litle question mark button. It will display some information and tips regarding video encoding. - When I encode a FRAPS video it gets slow down or speeded up. I didn't change the slowdown setting.
This happens because MEncoder can't hadle real FPS conversion. Update CAE Reporter to v1.02 or newer which uses VirtualDub for processing videos. - FRAPS generated several 4.0 Gb files for my capture. Can the program merge these files?
The program has builtin functionality (v1.03+) for assembling AVI from segments. Simply load any segment from the capture and the program will automatically detect all the segments, their order and load all of them as a single video. It doesn't matter if you renamed the segments or moved them around. As long as they are in the same folder it will work. This option requires AviSynth to be installed, and can be disabled in Configuration - Options - Misc - Is it possible that the program will misuse my usernames and passwords?
No, the program will only use them for the purposes described in the licence (About - Licence) - Is it possible for a hacker to get my passwords from the program?
Nothing regarding security is 100%. But there are a lot of security measures in place to prevent theft of your credentials. They are stored only locally. Stored information is encrypted using 256 bit AES encryption. So you may ask yourself, what if someone were to decompile or crack the program, they would than be able do decrypt the information. Well, to prevent that, the assembly contained in the exe file if obfuscated (symbols renamed, strings encrypted, constant literals pruned, method signature overloads induced and class hierarchy linearized). It would be pretty hard for anyone (including me) to make heads or tails out of it. - But what if someone manages to crack the program and steals my logins?
My program goes only so far in protecting you as a user. Always download it from this page and check the md5 cheksum to see if the program has been tampered with. Be smart! - Is the program open source?
No. For the time being this project is closed source. If and when I stop developing it and there are no other developers active, the project may go open source, so it can still be maintained. - Is it still possible to see the source code for educational/development purposes?
Yes. If you want to help me develop, or simply examine the source, you can contact me by email. However, you must give me assurances that the source will not be disclosed to a third party or used in violation of the original licence under which the program was released.
